Minute 112: You Know We’ve All Had Trouble

January 03, 2017
MP3

Guest Host: Jonathan Carlisle

Jonathan Carlisle is part of the crew working to get The Princess Bride Minute podcast off the ground. He boasts an affinity for all things sky-bound; birds, planes, Supermen, etc. He lives on Cloud 9 with his wife and three children. In Michigan.

Vacation Co-Host: Nancy O’Kane

Nancy O’Kane, better known in Internet circles as “The Captain”, is much more comfortable watching movies than talking about them. Nevertheless, she has succumbed to the charms of her husband and agreed to take part in his podcast. When she’s not talking about George Kennedy and his cigars, she’s a full time student majoring in history and minoring in classics. She’s also busy being a caretaker to Rio, the most neurotic dog on the planet. Rio is afraid of thunder, lawnmowers, and plastic bags.

Summary

Cy is talking to Father Lonigan. He tells the priest he’s putting him “in charge of praying.”

Fr. Lonigan replies, “If that’s an order, you’re about thirty minutes too late, son.”

In the cockpit, Vern makes an announcement. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he says, “this is Captain Demerest. I want to thank you for moving forward in such an orderly manner.”

In one of the forward seats, Ada Quonsett shares a fur coat with Sister Felice.

“I think it’ll be a little warmer for you this way,” continues Vern, “and also it’ll help us in controlling the plane during landing.”

In the aft entryway, Dr. Compagno listens to Gwen’s heartbeat with a stethoscope while Sister Katherine Grace prepares a syringe.

“You know we’ve all had trouble,” says Vern, “bad trouble. I won’t attempt to minimize it, but we’ve all gone through an experience that none of us has ever had before, and thank God we have come through.”

Fr. Lonigan nods his head while listening to Vern’s speech.

“We have the airplane under control,” continues Vern. “We estimate landing in about twenty five minutes.” Judy Barton plays with the little Italian boy. The Schultz family is crowded in with Mr. Davidson on the aisle. Mr. Schultz clutches a small bottle of brandy.

“Now, I won’t kid you,” says Vern. “We still have a few problems ahead of us. Now there are two thoughts that should comfort you. First, you’re in one of the best constructed planes that there is, and second, well tonight, instead of one experienced captain, you have two: Captain Harris and myself. Between us, we have more flying years than we sometimes like to think about…”

Back in the aft entryway, Dr. Compagno is talking to Gwen, who is wrapped in a head bandage and lying flat on the floor.

“Now, I’m going to give you something for the pain,” says Dr. Compagno. “But don’t -”
